Gerald Lomaventema is a distinguished Hopi silversmith renowned for his expertise in traditional overlay techniques and his innovative approach to Hopi jewelry. Hailing from the village of Shungopavi on Second Mesa, Gerald learned the art of silversmithing in the 1980s and 1990s through the Hopi Silvercraft Cooperative Guild.
Beyond his craftsmanship, he plays a pivotal role in mentoring younger Hopi artists, teaching them traditional techniques and guiding them in the business aspects of their craft. In 2016, Gerald's contributions were recognized with the Santa Fe Master-Apprentice Artist Award. Additionally, he is the great-grandson of Olympic medalist Louis Tewanima, reflecting a legacy of excellence. Through his work and mentorship, Gerald continues to enrich the Hopi community and preserve its artistic traditions.
